Mandy Bedard, Principal

Dear LCM Families,

I am honored to be the proud principal of La Costa Meadows!  I look forward to meeting and building partnerships with our students, staff, and parents as we work together to support students in achieving and growing academically, socially, and emotionally each and every day!

While I am new to the La Costa Meadows community, I have been an elementary site leader for almost four years.  Prior to becoming a site administrator, I was a classroom teacher for ten years.  During my time as a teacher I had the honor of teaching multiple grade levels from kindergarten through fifth grade.  It was as a classroom teacher that my drive to impact the learning of students beyond the four walls of my classroom began to grow.  As a result, I began to take on numerous leadership roles at the site and district level that ultimately impacted student learning in a positive way.  As a teacher leader, I was a member of my previous district’s Response to Instruction and Intervention Task Force, the Elementary Time Task Force, the Class Size Study Group, a member of the District Stakeholder Team, and a member of the Willow Grove Elementary opening Leadership Team.  When I became a school site leader, I was asked to join the San Diego County Office of Education’s Advisory Committee for their administrative credential programs.  Each of these opportunities supported my growth as a leader and further ignited my desire to become an instructional leader supporting the growth and success of every student.

On a more personal note, I’ve lived in San Diego my entire life and am in love with our city where a short drive can take you to the beach, mountains, or desert!  I have been married to my husband, Rick, for 11 years and I am the proud mom of two children, a son and a daughter.  My son will be a fifth grader this year and my daughter is excited to begin third grade.  When I am not at work, our family can be found camping, spending time with extended family and friends, or out on the lacrosse field and basketball court!

As we embark on a new school year, I am excited to begin collaborating with our community as we continue to strengthen our inclusive and academically rich learning environment where the strengths of our students are celebrated and a love of learning is fostered today, tomorrow, and beyond!

With Dolphin Pride,

Mrs. Bedard

Julie Stephens, Assistant Principal

Ms. Stephens & her 3 sons.

I am so honored to begin my third year as the assistant principal at La Costa Meadows Elementary. I wake up each and every day excited to come to work, as LCM is a very special place to be. I have been in SMUSD since 2001, working as a teacher, administrator, and at the district level. A few of my previous responsibilities included working on the district’s NGSS Science Cadre, being a California Teaching Induction (CTI) Support Provider, a Cooperating Teacher for teachers in training, and the On-Site Liaison for CSUSM's Student Teacher program. In addition to my assistant principal role at LCM, I work at the district level as the lead facilitator in our Essential Elements of Instruction for new administrators and teachers.

I am born and raised in San Marcos, and proud to say that I am a product of San Marcos Unified School District! I have three wonderful sons. My oldest is a Marine and now attends SDSU, obtaining his Business Degree while completing a Marine Officer Program. My other boys attend San Marcos High School. My middle son is a senior who loves fitness and is a running back on the Knights’ varsity football team. My youngest is a sophomore who enjoys weight lifting and is in a band with his friends.

I am thrilled to be a part of the LCM family, building relationships with the staff, students, parents, and community. I am looking forward to another fantastic year!
