Who is Eligible to Participate?

La Costa Meadows students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades. Each class will have a class spelling bee and the top spellers will be invited to participate in the school Bee! Approximately 30 spellers from each grade level may participate. Participation is 100% voluntary.

I'm a class champion. How do I get more information?

After your teacher determines who the Class Champions are, she will give you a packet of information for you to look over.

When is the La Costa Meadows Spelling Bee?

The Spelling Bee will be on Thursday, February 14th. The Bee will be split into three assemblies, one for each grade participating. Parents are encouraged to attend! All assemblies will be in the school cafeteria:

Grade 3: 8:50am

Grade 4: 10:00am

Grade 5: 11:30am

Will the grade 3-5 students compete together?

No, each grade level will have its own LCM Spelling Bee. There will be one winner, one second place, and one third place winner per grade.

Is our La Costa Meadows Spelling Bee affiliated with the Scripps National Bee?

Yes, we are utilizing the Scripps National Spelling Bee program to conduct our school spelling bee. However, our school winners will not be moving on to the semi-finals. In San Diego County, only 7th and 8th graders are eligible for further competitions.
