Dear La Costa Meadows Students and Families,
Welcome to another exciting year of music! My name is Keith K. Ball, and I am thrilled to be
entering my 15th year teaching music at La Costa Meadows. As an educator, songwriter, and
musician, my primary goal is to foster a lifelong passion for music in a safe, supportive, and
engaging environment.
Our music curriculum aligns with California and National Music Teaching Standards, as well as
the SMUSD VAPA Scope and Sequence. Throughout the year, students will actively explore:

•  1.0 Artistic Perception: Reading, notating, listening to, analyzing, and describing

music.

•  2.0 Creative Expression: Singing, playing instruments, creating, and sharing

original music and performing.

•  3.0 Historical & Cultural Context: Understanding the cultural background and

history behind different musical styles.

• 4.0 Aesthetic Valuing: Exploring tone, rhythm, timbre, and the emotional impact

of music.

• 5.0 Connections & Applications: Applying musical concepts across other

subject areas and personal experiences.
